Alces
Software
was formed in 2008 by a partnership of IT professionals with the aim of
simplifying software configuration and management across Linux
distributions. After building system automation solutions as test
engineers,
developers and HPC cluster sys-admins, they became frustrated at the
lack of
cross-distribution standardization. Installing software across
different hardware and Linux distributions was complicated,
time-consuming and required highly skilled engineers. After several years working with Linux HPC clusters built on a wide variety of hardware platforms and different Linux distributions, it became clear that manually installing each system from scratch wasn't scalable. Convinced that there was a more efficient way, Alces' founders designed and created the Open Source Symphony Framework, capable of deploying and configuring software on any Linux distribution specifically for the target hardware.
Our Services
As the world creates more Linux
applications and distributions,
our software tools provide system builders with a single interface able
to
create recipes for installing software and abstracting the specifics of
hardware and OS configuration. In 2009, Alces began providing an HPC
cluster integration service to allow customers to deploy customized
systems built on commodity hardware and software components. Following
a number of customer successes, we're expanding in 2010 - taking on
more resources and developing new partner relationships to deliver the
best in commercial and open-source solutions.
